The Journey Church Day Space began operating informally in 2019, in response to local need in the community. In 2022, Journey Church joined the Extreme Weather Response program as a Warming Centre during the winter months and operating on a volunteer model during the warmer months, before becoming an official Day Space in 2025.
The Journey Church Day Space is a daytime support centre for unhoused individuals. It is operated by Journey Church in partnership with Distress Centre Calgary, with funding from The City of Calgary that is allocated by the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF). The space provides a safe welcoming environment where people can rest, access meals and hygiene facilities, and connect to housing, employment, health, and other critical supports.
Some of our participants are reporting that the Day Space is “ a safe place to go when there is no place to go,” providing a feeling of security and hope in Calgary. Hundreds of people are being served each month as we do out best to make a difference in the lives of Calgarians trying to survive the harsh realities of life. Professional services at the Day Space are provided by Distress Centre Calgary’s Coordinated Entry team and the Journey Church Outreach Director, who oversee the day-to-day operations of the Day Space and provide referrals to detox programs and applications for addiction treatments, housing assessments and housing plans, and financial education and coaching.

Volunteering with us is a way to give back and support those experiencing homelessness and hardship in our own city. We welcome volunteers from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday-Friday. Your time and compassion can provide warmth, comfort, and a sense of belonging to those seeking shelter from the cold.
